Today, I will share with you on how I photograph a one-day wedding including schedule, tips, and my points of view. I hope this will help you to learn more about my photography style... so when our paths cross, we can easily relate to each other.
It was the wedding of Hoang and Trang in Tacoma, WA. I love them so much as a nice couple and really kind clients to work with.
The day started off with a small and cozy Vietnamese ceremony at home with family members and close friends... Trang looked better than ever and stunningly beautiful in the popping red + gold aodai.
Saving some time from the ceremony, I kindly asked the couple for a private time to take some pictures of themselves right in the backyard.
The afternoon session started at around 2:00PM. While Trang was getting ready with hair and makeup, I spent time to take some detail shoots of shoes, dress, rings, and invitation. Since it was an overcast day and there was not much light available indoor, I decided to bring all of them outside to take the most advantage of the natural light... and yes, when I look back the photos, I am proud of that decision. Everything is gorgeous, and the details are really sparkling.
Trang was the first client of KM, and we appreciate her kindness through out the whole process. She is such as nice person and easy to work with. Really wish we will get chance to work with wonderful clients as she is.
Right before heading the wedding reception, we opted out for the bridal party photo shoot at TCC Japanese Garden as it is in a short distance to the restaurant.
My main goal to photograph the entire reception was to capture the most pristine emotions of people at the event, especially the couple and their family members. Therefore, I used all of what I learn from the photojournalism class to blend in the scenes and document all the activities. No posing, no pre-arrangement, no direction... things just happened innately as how they should be, and I followed along to be part of that. When looking at these photos, I am proud that I could capture the true moments of the event and everyone there.
I love, love, love... the first dance. I consider it as the most important and magical moment of the whole reception where the couple share their very first intimately beautiful steps in front of friends and family. It is just so important that I pressure myself to produce some of the most beautiful pictures of the day from this moment. However, there are some challenges that I often face off... the lighting is not the best one that I can ask for... The light was very low with just a few beams dimming on the floor. Of course, I could use the camera flash to add some more light, but it would just break the whole sentiment of the scene... I could not move too close to the couple to disturbe them, or even move too much around because I did not want to block other people from observing this beautiful scene. Fortunately, the video light just saved the day... it was not too strong to interfere people but added the soft, beautiful, and large enough beam of light to highlight the couple... it just made everything become more dramatic like on the Broadway stage.
Many thanks to Hoang + Trang and your family to have me be a part of your big day. It is my honor and true pleasure to document your wedding. You are surely one of my favorite clients to work with. I wish you two a happy life together and much blessings to come.
