Dung + Tri Anniversary

I received a Facebook message from Tri that he was planning on a special day for Dung to celebrate their first anniversary. That is super sweet, and of course I absolutely support it for 100%. We first planed that the photo shoot would be a surprise for his girlfriend. But Tri might be too excited that he couldn’t keep it secret from Dung. That was fine or even better because I could talk her out on what they should prepare for the shoot and what to expect out of it.

It was almost a half year since my last couple photo shoot. I missed photographing dearly through out the winter. That is a drawback of living in this beautiful Northwest, where the sun just shines for 1/3 of the year. Spring is now here, and it is time for me to sharpen my skills and bring out what I have been learning during the last 6 months. To prepare for this shoot, I surfed the web for some ideals, and there was no doubt that Jasmine Star once again became my biggest inspiration.

It was on a beautifully overcast Sunday with Tacoma Ruston Way as an amazing backdrop. Dung and Tri had just finished their lunch when I arrived at the location. We were fresh and eager to rock for the next two hours.

Since I am in the process of updating my gears, I rented out a Canon 7D for this shoot. To keep it light and also to challenge myself, I only brought the Canon 50mm L f/1.2 and used it exclusively. After shooting with a full-frame camera, I needed some adjustment to be comfortable with a crop sensor camera, especially when composing the shoot. Other than that, the Canon 7D performed beautifully. It functions much like my previous 5D Mark II with a much faster rate.

Lucky for me, I know Dung and Tri quite well; plus they are comfortable to be in front of the camera… so, it was effortless to direct them with minimal coaching.

I know that piggyback style is so so so popular in couple photos, but you can never deny that it is always among everyone’s favorites… love the girl’s face expression as she just feels so safe and delighted while the guy is so much confident to show his strength.

When I saw that orange locomotive, without hesitation I told the couple that “please come here quickly before it’s gone.”… And bang!!! It is one of my favorites.

Thanks Dung and Tri for being awesome! It was thrill to capture your love. I can’t wait to show you the pictures :)
